Optional Homework Ideas
Science Kids (build circuits with different materials)
Learning Circuits (online circuits and information about using electricity)
Electricity and Energy (links to lots of different sites and interactive activities about electricity)
- Research schools or business in our area that are using solar power for electricity
- Some people say that electrical devices use power when they are plugged in, but not turned on. This is sometimes called “phantom” energy. Others disagree. Do some investigating online, in the library and/or by calling your power company. What’s the truth? Write a pamphlet that educates people about this.
- What is the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy? Why does it matter which kind of energy we use? Electricity comes from other kinds of energy. Find out what kind of energy we use at our school and what kind of energy do you use at home? Make a graph that shows how much of our energy comes from each energy source.
- How do batteries work? Can you make your own battery? Be sure you have permission to work on this.
